MITCHELDEAN
George
Hotel, Star Pitch, High Street
The
George Hotel has been a pub since c.1600. Its history goes back still further
when it was a pin factory and also lead shot was manufactured on the premises.
It was once known as the George and Dragon. Its upper storey was removed in 1947
when it was found to be in a dangerous condition. The pub is still trading but
no longer offers accommodation. It is now known as the George Inn. In 1891 and
1903 it had an annual rateable value of £20 and closed at 10 p.m.

White
Horse Hotel, High Street
The
White Horse Commercial Hotel was probably the nearest pub to the Mitcheldean

A sandstone brick building that has changed very little over the last
hundred years or so, except that the beers are no longer brewed next door. The
White Horse is now a free house. In
the 1891 and 1903 petty sessional divisional records the annual rateable value
