Used to serve too many beers for its turnover - all went bad before they were taken off or sold. Three beers on this time - Boddingtons Bitter (yawn), Bass and Charles Wells Bombardier. Bombardier was good, and pub itself is always comfortable with easy chairs and relaxed atmosphere.

After a number of years under very indifferent ownership the pub has changed hands twice in 2000. The pub has London Pride, some Wye Valley and RCH Pitchfork on. The landlord Fred is helpful and friendly but I am not sure the turnover is enough for the number of beers on sale. In fact, the beer I had in Aug 2002 was borderline undrinkable. The pub itself is a lovely old building with wood burning stove, and a wealth of ancient exposed timber. Looks like kids are OK to go in as Fred welcomed mine! Car park gets full early in the evening.

Visited for the first time in a couple of years. Used to come here with the kids as it has a large garden they can play in. However, the adult diversion of beer just wasn't exciting enough being the most boring selection of Whitbread products you can imagine. This time at least there was an improvement as no real ale was on at all. Apparently the Flowers had only been standing for two days and had not cleared yet. This shows that there is no planning ahead for the provision of real ale and only one real ale is available if you are lucky - if you call a pint of Flowers lucky. The atmosphere was non-existent. Carlsberg lager was OK!

Pub Information - updated 1999

Grid Reference- 535098  Directions- Car park is off the A466 in Redbrook.  Cross the Wye by means of the old railway bridge straight to the pub. Landlord- Don
Opening Times- 11.30 to 3, 6 to 11 Monday to Friday.  11 to 11 Saturday.  12 to 10.30 Sunday.
Beers- Between 6 and eight real ales usually available.
Food- Good range of home cooked food.  Childrens menu also available.  Food available between 12 and 2.30, 6 to 9.30 and 12 to 9.30 Saturday and Sunday.
Description- Old two-room pub nestling on the Welsh side of the River Wye .  The car park is on the English side at Redbrook and the pub is reached by walking across the disused railway bridge which dominates the pub.  Beer is served straight from the cask in a cellar helped to cool by spring water flowing from the hillside behind.  Further springs are in the garden which is floodlit at night.  An idyllic pub on a summers day (and night).  The pub normally hosts jazz on Tuesday evenings and folk music on Thursdays.
Children- Well behaved children welcome.
Car Park- Yes.
Garden- Yes, complete with running water.
Accommodation- None.
